In this one-day workshop, we will be combining fabric and paper to create a multi-layered wall
hanging. To create this piece, we will be collaging, stenciling, stamping, and stitching. As you
add each individual element, it all comes together to create a unique mixed media assemblage
that requires the viewer to become one and interact with the art. In the process, you will learn
new approaches to mixed media and techniques that you can apply to your creative practice.
Supply List
Substrate. 1 sheet of heavyweight paper measuring about 8 x 10 inches. The sample uses a
140lb piece of handmade watercolor paper.
Fabric and Paper. These will become the “pages” of the wall hanging. See the sample images
for guidance as to size. Bring a small assortment of both.
Ink Pads. I will be using permanent ink but anything goes.
An assortment of your favorite rubber stamps and stencils. These will also be provided to use and
share in the shop.
Acrylic Block
Smooth Craft sponges. I use make-up sponges.
Collage Material. A small amount of collage elements that might include vintage paper, scrapbook or
hand painted paper, fabric fragments, die cuts, etc.
Collage Adhesive. I will be using a glue stick.
Needle and Thread. Sewing thread in a variety of colors.
Small Paint Brush to add to the assemblage. The one in the sample is about 9 inches long.
